Introduction

Southern Seawater Desalination Plant Stage 1 & 2

Permacast played a key role in the development of Western Australia’s Southern Seawater Desalination Plant, a major infrastructure project delivering up to 50 gigalitres of potable water annually, with the capacity to expand to 100 gigalitres.
For Stage 1, we manufactured, delivered, and installed over 1,035 precast façade panels using S50 low-heat concrete, designed for a 100-year lifespan. With production of up to 200 m² per day and storage for over 450 panels, we supplied a total of 18,000 m² of panels (8,000 tonnes) on time and on budget.
In Stage 2, we supplied additional precast façade walls and underground electrical tunnels, including 60 inverted box culverts and 100 precast covers, using purpose-built steel moulds to meet project requirements.
This project demonstrates Permacast’s expertise in durable, large-scale precast solutions for critical water infrastructure.
